    On 30th March 2012, the Government of Japan exchanged notes with the Government of Malawi for a grant aid amounting to 1.2 Billion Japanese Yen (approximately 4.3 billion Kwacha) for the second phase of the Project for the Reconstruction and Expansion of Selected Community Day Secondary Schools. The grant has facilitated the construction of additional school facilities like Class room blocks, Administration blocks, kitchen and dining hall, Library, Laboratory blocks, Girl’s hostels, Staff houses and Toilets. A total of six CDSSs in the Central and Northern region of Malawi in the districts of Salima, Lilongwe, Nkhotakota, Mzuzu, Nkhatabay and Mzimba have been reconstructed with this grant aid.

 

    On 18th September 2014, His Excellency Shuichiro Nishioka, Ambassador of Japan to Malawi handed over the Project for the Reconstruction and Expansion of Selected Community Day Secondary Schools Phase II. The function was presided over by Hon. Vincent Winstone Ghambi, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology at new Matenje Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Salima District.


 Speaking during the ceremony, Ambassador Nishioka commended the Malawi Government for prioritizing the education sector and by implementing various measures and policies to promote education for all. He was delighted that, through the grant, the students of Matenje CDSS are now able to learn, eat, study and sleep in better facilities.
